Energy sustainability... Climate Change.... these are the problems of our generations and will be for generations to come. For those who have seen Al Gore's Oscar winning documentary, "The Inconvenient Truth", you would certainly understand the urgency needed to solve these issues. In Singapore, the government has identified the Clean Energy industry as a strategic growth area for our economy in March 2007, targeting S$1.7 billion contribution to GDP and 7,000 employment by 2015. Within a short 9 months, the Economic Development Board (EDB) has secured many iconic projects in this sector.
Despite the tremendous opportunities available and the real means to make a difference on our living environment, few amongst the grassroots and student population have taken interest.
With that in mind, Energy Carta was formed. Energy Carta is a non-profit organization formed at the end of 2007 by an enthusiastic and passionate bunch of NOC alumni from all 4 colleges with the aim of bringing various clean energy stakeholders together onto one platform to have meaningful discourse and provide pragmatic solutions to the climate change issues the world faces today.
The main focus will be to serve as the interface between the students and the industry, offering opportunities for jobs, internship, technical and research projects. Indeed, its activities include panel series, career talks, focus group sessions and an annual regional conference – with this year's theme being "Green Opportunities & Challenges in Asia".
